Meet the CAH Psychologists at CHLA!

Cynthia E. Muñoz, PhD, MPH, MA

Dr. Muñoz is a bilingual clinician, proficient in both English and Spanish, who earned a PhD in Clinical Psychology, MPH in Maternal and Child Health, and an MA in Experimental Psychology. She completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology at CHLA with a focus on endocrine and metabolic conditions.

Through Dr. Muñoz’s academic appointment as Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, and clinical appointments at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism and the CHLA Behavioral Health Institute, she strives to improve the clinical and psychosocial well-being of children with endocrine conditions and their families. Since arriving at CHLA in 2002, she has provided evidence-based interventions for youth with endocrine conditions in outpatient, inpatient, foster care, and school settings. Dr. Muñoz’s research interests focus on the individual and family-related emotional and behavioral factors that impact adherence to endocrine management plans, with the goal of reducing the severity of emotional and behavioral risks, reducing caregiver stress, and improving adherence. Motivated by the struggles of family members challenged by complex endocrine conditions, she is also actively involved in advocacy at the local and national level with a focus on mental health and the educational rights for youth living with endocrine conditions.
